AT&T, T-Mobile to offer cell service in NYC Subways

Transit Wireless has signed a 10 year pact with the two GSM carriers that will eventually bring cell service to all 277 terminals in the city. Both carriers will have an option of renewing the contract in 5 year blocks for 4 periods.

Even though AT&T has had problems with its 3G service in the Big Apple City that never sleeps, the carrier still has a big following because of the iPhone’s strength in the financial district. Sprint and Verizon might lose some of the strap holding, WSJ reading, subway riding cell phone users in the city.

What cell phone would Dr. House use?

Actually, we have seen the great diagnostician use a flip device of some sort, although in one episode he received an iPhone as an Xmas gift.

We bet that House would certainly be a Cellular Ticker reader as we could give him all of the important news that cell phone addicts want to see. And since he is no longer addicted to Vicodin, being a cell phone addict would be a safer habit.

Motorola Milestone Ferrari version not for sale

Look at that bright red Motorola Milestone. That is firetruck red. Heck, it even could be called Ferrari red. Actually, it is a limited edition version of the Milestone produced for the automotive manufacturer to give out to members of the company’s board, execs or even very good customers. Of course, most board members, executives and Ferrari buyers can afford their own Milestone or three, but what the heck-the phone looks great in red.

Nokia N8 AMOLED vs. iPhone 4 IPS LCD

Sure, the Nokia N8 is the Finnish based firms toughest challenger yet for the iPhone-and not just because it doesn’t have a removable battery like Apple’s touchscreen handset. Of course, there are some things about the N8 that make me shake my head in wonder-like the portrait phone pad keyboard. On the other hand, the 12MB camera takes pictures thisquickly.

Here is the first head to head matchup between the 2 phones featuring the Nokia N8’s AMOLED (no Super which means the sun WILL block out the screen) display vs. the iPhone 4’s IPS LCD.

Which device is the winner? No spoiler here, watch the video below. Don’t speak the language? Use your power of deduction.

Live Wallpapers, trivia contests, photos and video from the acclaimed franchise can be played on your Verizon branded handset.

So if Verizon has an exclusive, why is the handset in the video below a Sprint branded EVO 4G? Because the folks at Xda-developers got their hands on the APK files for the 4 different wallpapers which you can get by clicking on this link and using a file explorer which will allow you to load up the wallpaper as you normally would.

Google buys BlindType, expect amazing predictive engine for Android stock QWERTY

Google has purchased BlindType, the producer of an incredible soft keyboard that allows you to type poorly and yet end up with the correct  words on the screen.

As the video shows, you can even type on a blank slate, change orientation and keyboard size, and still have your messaghe come out perfect.

The company had been working on versions for the iOS and Android, but with Google putting up the cash to buy the company, BlindType will probably end up as an Android exclusive.

Samsung Transform another Galaxy S model for Sprint

Sprint currently offers the Epic 4G, a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S Pro, which includes a slide-out landscape physical QWERTY keyboard. Now,  a picture of some upcoming Sprint phones shows a unit that resembles the Epic called the Transform. It could be that this is a variant of the Galaxy S (no Pro) which is the model that Verizon (Samsung Fascinate), AT&T (Samsung Captivate) and T-Mobile (Samsung Vibrant) offers.

Android is the iPhone Killer

Ever since the 2007 launch of the original iPhone, carriers, manufacturers and cell phone users have been searching for the iPhone killer. It started with a LG employee who tagged the title on the LG Voyager which had stereo bluetooth, 3G, photo messaging-all wonderful things that the iPhone did not have at the time. But the touchscreen was choppy, the browser  funky and after all, the Voyager wasn’t even a smartphone.

Then came the Samsung Instinct, another feature phone that also did not wound the iPhone despite Samsung’s tricky ads (they compared the device to the Apple iPhone even though the iPhone 3G was just days away from launch).

But now, it looks like we have found one! Android in August took the 7% share of the U.S. market that the iPhone lost, according to Millennial Media’s “Monthly Mix”. The iPhone still leads with a 48% share, but at this pace, Google’s open source OS will surpass the iPhone in 4-6 months.

Other parts of the monthly stats showed Motorola jumping past RIM to be the third biggest seller in the U.S. behinmd Samsung and Apple. The iPhone is the biggest selling handset with about 27% of the total followed by thew original Motorola DROID with 9.44% 5 other Android models are in the top 20.

What about the fact that the iPhone is just 1 model while there are Android units coming out of everyone’s ear? Do you see that trend ending? No? So there is no need to adjust for it.

Ha! What about Windows Phone 7. That will shoot down Android. Uh…no. Considering that AT&T has gone on record as wanting to be the carrier for Windows Mobile 7, all that OS will do is cannibalize iPhone sales.

BlackBerry 9670 shows its Style on video

The BlackBerry Style 9670 is not a top of the line model, but it is a cool unique form factor that will probably be a great conversation piece. Plus, you are getting the new BlackBerry 6 OS and the WebKit browser. Check out the 9670 vs. the closest thing that RIM currently has to the 9670, the Pearl Flip. And with the new OS and browser, the Style demolishes the Flip. Besides, why settle for SureType when you can have one letter per key on the 9670.

The poor guy in the front row who interrupted his teacher’s lesson by taking a call, sure picked a bad day to do this. Well, how could he have known that the poor teacher dropped her iPhone 4 into her toilet just minutes before this incident.
