Is the hottest phone at the moment the HTC Pyramid?

AT&T says the upcoming Motorola ATRIX 4G is the most powerful smartphone on this planet. That might be true for now, but HTC has been working on a Superphone that already  has been grabbing some of the buzz among cellphone fanatics. The HTC Pyramid is expected to have a Qualcom MSM8260 third generation (THIRD GENERATION!!!!!!!) dual-core 1.2GHz snapdragon processor, a 4.3 inch qHD display and more than 1GB of RAM.

Talk is that the Pyramid is heading to T-Mobile while the device has already been spotted in the computer inventory system belonging to European carrier Vodafone.

Superphones are a comin….the models that we personally think that cellphone junkies should bee keeping an eye on are:

Motorola ATRIX 4G (AT&T, Android)

Motorola DROID BIONIC (Verizon, Android)

LG Optimus 2 X (N/A, Android)

HTC Pyramid (T-Mobile, Android)

Really, Sprint, Kyocera ECHO? Really?

KikiWe have come to a conclusion at Cellular Ticker that what will make us different than the other blogs with the same stories is that we will be truthful-a tough concept but one that protects our readers. For example, what was the reason for Sprint’s big deal press event today? A HOT New Superphone? Hardly. The iPhone is coming to Dan Hesse’s Kingdom? Nope-not a shot. So what was so frickin’ important that you could hear a pin drop?

The Kyocera ECHO, that’s what. And if you look at the phone, it simply looks like it sucks. Wow! That might be unprofessional to say but if I save one reader the $199.99 after $100 mail-in-rebate and a 2 year contract, then I’ve done my job.

The ECHO is different because it has TWO screens that lock together with a hinge that is being patented. Each screen is 3.5 inches with resolution of  480 X 800. Together, it comes out to a 4.7 inch 960 X 800 screen. The problem is that the device still looks like a Ninentdo DS when opened. And Sprint has seen fit to include a second battery and an external charger with the phone-the same gimmick they tried to get away with on the Samsung Instinct.

Seven apps are optimized for both screen so that you can browse using one screen while reading e-mail on the other. WOW! Now, perhaps we could be a little kinder if the specs were amazing. But they are not. Second gen 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.2 (even the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY! will launch with 2.3.

What a zippy browser

The LG Star, which will launch first in Korea before making its way to multiple carriers in the States, is an amazingly fast device. And why shouldn’t it be? With a dual-core processor, this handset rocks. And to make sure that no one in the States forgets what is under the hood, LG plans on changing the name to the LG Optimus 2X when it arrives in the U.S. Talk is that the first carrier in the colonies to get the phone will be T-Mobile.

While the Korean based manufacturer says that browsing speeds up by 2X and games are 5X faster, take a gander at the video of the browser test below and see how on the LG Optimus 2X, the page comes up instantly.

What worth screwing up once might be worth messing up a second time. How could Palm have screwed up a sure thing like the first-gen Palm Pre? In january 2009, people were bowing down before this phone after it was introduced. Apple was going to shake in its boots.

But the smallish 3.1 inch screen, lack of tasty apps in the Palm Apps Catalog, the Fisher-Price assembly quality,  the rather piss poor QWERTY and stupid ads that didn’t focus on the phone left enough time for Androidmania to result from the launch of the Motorola DROID.

Now comes the Palm Pre 2. Ok, it has a 1GHz processor. It has webOS2 which is pretty cool, we admit.  It’s fun to turn off an app by flipping it up and off the screen! But it still has that puny 3.1 inch screen, the crappy QWERTY keyboard and an improved but still cheaply made feel to the phone. Verizon customers should concentrate on the Android space because Big Red is going to have some might-t-fine handsets running Google’s open source OS.

In the interest of pleasing HP and Palm, check out their propaganda on the Palm Pre 2
